Now that I am 60, I understand my Grandmothers habit of sitting and staring off. As a child I wondered why she was not a happier person. This is becoming clearer to me now. She was born in Bucharest in 1900, came over on a boat in 1914 to Canada. I imagine it was not a very pleasant trip, she never spoke of it. I suppose we will live our lives leaving Europe, still, in bits and pieces. I have never felt closer to the worlds peoples than I do now, seeing us being exterminated fast and slowly. Pray the evils drop dead of their own accord.
