I took an American Government class in 8th grade, and the teacher wore great pant suits. Like 'WKRP in Cincinatti' type suits. Really, it was 1977. However I do not remember him mentioning whether we were a Democracy or a Republic, it wasn't part of polite conversation I suppose. Too bad. The middle ground is a dangerous place.
We are a Constitutional Representative Republic. However, we have not been existing as one since the Reagan administration. We have been existing as a controlled economy under bureaucracy. The American government is supposed to serve the people not itself.

Potemkin democracy. Fake elections, fake presidents. Real tyranny coming, though.
